Experience of Undertaking ‘in-school’ Interim Roles
Working ‘in-house’ in interim senior leadership roles as Interim Headteacher, Associate Headteacher and Associate Principal of 11-16 and 11-18 schools and academies I have assisted in the improvement of learning and teaching in institutions (typically within a six month period an improvement of 30+% in the proportion of lessons judged to be ‘good or better’):
•instigated the successful introduction of new approaches to school short and medium term target setting and school development strategies,
•introduced new reporting, monitoring, departmental and pastoral agenda setting and review,
•introduced new agreed schemes and structures for lesson observation,
•completed all school work monitoring utilising a range of techniques including learning walks, lesson observations, work scrutinies and student voice.
•supported colleagues in preparing for HMI and OFSTED Inspections and subsequently contributed to those inspections via individual discussion with Inspectors and undertaking joint lesson observations to agree/moderate standards,
•undertaken thorough analysis of school personnel development needs and developed plans to implement planned professional development actions to support individuals, groups and all staff as required,
•undertaken disciplinary actions against individual staff on behalf of the Head teacher of Governing Body as required or supported ongoing planned interventions where there was a need for an ‘external view’,
•advised on the development of school budget priorities and spending plans arising from school review processes,
•and undertaken structural reorganisation of both department and pastoral systems.
